A moment of ‘madness’ and the challenge of a colleague made me do it!
It’s taken me a few days to blog about it properly on here, since I needed to figure out whether I’d actually be up to swimming such a distance in the first place, put a training ‘plan of action’ into place, and let the reality of what I’ve signed myself up to sink in.
But, it’s official, I’ve signed up for the 2012 Swimathon and shall be attempting to swim 5K!*
*That’s 3.1 miles, 200 lengths [of a 25m pool] and all (fingers-crossed) within a 3 hour time-slot, without sinking or turning into a prune!
So it’s definitely going to be a challenge for me, since the last time I swam a distance near to this was when I was 11years old; and last taking part in a Swimathon. On that occasion I managed 74 lengths in 1hour.
However, I shall be swimming in the aid of a good cause – Marie Curie Cancer Care – which, together with the personal challenge of it all and wanting to prove to a few that I can do it, will hopefully spur me on!
I’ll be updating my Swim Log with updates on training and my general progress towards this goal, but in the meantime, if anyone has any good tips or advice for long distance swimming / words of encouragement / past experience of swimming 5K, then I’d love to hear from you…
